The story of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is often referred to as children's literature, fantasy fiction, or speculative fiction. However, it can also be categorized as magical realism as well. The basic concept of magical realism is that the supernatural exists within our everyday world. In Alice in Wonderland, the magical world isn't seen until it is searched for within Alice’s basic rationalized world. It isn't until she plummets down the symbolic rabbit’s hole that her world is truly exposed to a “wonderland” of a supernatural and alternative reality. Flowers come to life, she shrinks and grows at rapid rates, and animals can talk! To her the realm of Wonderland is not a true reality, but to the Queen of Hearts, The Mad Hatter, and all other characters; this is their normal reality. Alice’s existence in their realm on the other hand, is quite a unique situation for them.
